Top pick

1. San Francisco 49ers (-4) vs. Phi – The Eagles are beat up along the OL and that will be noticeable facing the 49ers on Sunday. Expect San Francisco to get back to its roots – running the ball – and pull out the home W by a TD.

Next

2. Baltimore Ravens (-3) vs. Car – The Panthers have issues on offense. They’re banged up at RB and Cam Newton is not fully healthy. Their new set of receivers are still getting acclimated too. While their D will keep them in the game, Baltimore is a tough place to play.

3. New England Patriots (-3) vs. KC – The Pats went through the motions en route to their 16-9 win over the Raiders last week. They’ll be much improved on MNF. The Chiefs salvaged their season in Miami but will fall to 1-3 here.

4. Tampa Buccaneers (+7) vs. Pit – See money line bet.

Rounding things out

Houston Texans (-3) vs. Buf – The Bills have had trouble getting their passing game going. RB Arian Foster should return which will help out.

Green Bay Packers (-2) vs. Chi – The Packers are desperate and QB Aaron Rodgers has the Bears number.

Oakland Raiders (+3) vs. Mia – Both are on a neutral field but it’s Miami that’s imploding moreso than the Raiders.

Money Line Bet

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+290) vs. Pit – In a week lacking with good underdogs, the Bucs have a real chance to steal a game on the road. They’re coming off a 10-day layoff and starting Mike Glennon, who could be more effective than Josh McCown. Pittsburgh is also down three key starters on defense which will be difficult to overcome.

Week 1 has seen its share of upsets over the past decade. Therefore, the most important thing is to get to week 2 and not take any unnecessary risks. Our strategy of finding 2nd tier teams with favorable match ups begins after opening day so we’re left with many top teams later on.

Each week we will give you three options to choose from.

Top Pick

1. Philadelphia Eagles vs. Jax – The Eagles have a dream match-up here. The lowly Jags enter the Linc and bring a lot of inexperience with them. The high flying Eagles, led by LeSean McCoy, will run roughshod over this defense. They are our top suicide pool pick this week and look for an easy win.

Next

2. New York Jets vs. Oak – The Jets have a number of question marks in their secondary, but that is Ok when you face a QB making his first professional start. We expect the Raiders to take steps forward but it won’t happen until midway through the season.

3. Chicago Bears vs. Buf – Buffalo will be a sneaky team this year and pack a lot of firepower offensively, but the Bears do as well and have the decided edge playing at home. Expect Cutler and Co. to put up big numbers through the air.

11. Houston Texans – They should bounce back. The D never had a chance last year with the offense playing so ineptly.

12. Baltimore Ravens – This is a fantasy sleeper and could end up top 6. Another D/ST that was hurt by horrible offensive play.

13. Pittsburgh Steelers – They’ve invested in a lot of young talent that past few years. Expect Lebeau to get the most out of it.

14. Detroit Lions – This unit was undisciplined a year ago. The new regime will have the front 7 humming.

15. Cleveland Browns – They were a very solid D/ST in 2013. A better offense will help it out.

16. New Orleans Saints – Rob Ryan’s attacking D yielded excellent returns in year 1.

17. New York Giants – The Giants changed their philosophy and focused on LBer in the offseason. It will pay dividends.

18. Philadelphia Eagles – They came on strong over the 2nd half of the season. Some solid young talent on that side of the ball.

19. Jacksonville Jaguars – They are a deep fantasy sleeper. Gus Bradley has built up a solid DL and has a scheme that will force turnovers.

20. Oakland Raiders – They have a chance to be another nice sleeper. Playing Denver twice a year is no fun, but they’ve added playmakers to this side of the ball.

1. Baltimore Ravens vs. Min – The well-rested Ravens will make life miserable for Matt Cassel.

2. San Francisco 49ers vs. Sea- This D has played lights out since Week 3.

3. Seattle Seahawks vs. SF – Seattle will confuse Colin Kaepernick into mistakes and keep scoring low.

4. New England Patriots vs. Cle – The Patriots play much better on their home park.

Not far behind

NY Jets vs. Oak – The Jets have been done in by their lack of offense. They’ll rebound here.

Carolina Panthers vs. NO – The Saints are extra tough at home but Carolina’s D matches up well here.

Denver Broncos vs. Ten – The Broncos get HC John Fox back and will return a pick 6.

Rounding things out

Arizona Cardinals vs. Stl. – The Cards have been very tough on their turf.

Miami Dolphins vs. Pit – The aggressive Dolphins will turn in a double digit fantasy effort.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Ind –Cincinnati will attack and punish Andrew Luck, who is playing behind a porous O Line.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Was – The Skins have taken a major step back offensively.

Oakland Raiders vs. NYJ – Almost by default the Raiders become a strong play. The Jets offense is horrible.

St. Louis Rams vs. Arz – Carson Palmer is prone to turnovers.

Potential Bust – Beware

New Orleans Saints vs. Car – This unit is much better at home but face a red hot Cam Newton this Sunday.

2. Kansas City Chiefs vs. SD – The Chiefs will have less issues getting to Rivers than Manning.

3. Baltimore Ravens vs. NYJ – Geno Smith is going to find Baltimore a very difficult place to play.

Not far behind

New York Giants vs. Dal – The Giants resurgent defense is more about talent and getting healthy than QBs they’ve faced.

2. Carolina Panthers (-8) vs. Atl – The Panthers are hot, coming off a 10-day rest and Cam Newton is playing the best ball of his career. The same cannot be said of the Falcons who have been injury plagued the entire season. Carolina will win this one going away…

3. St. Louis Rams (+3) vs. Ten – See money line bet.

4. Buffalo Bills (+4) vs. KC – The Chiefs are 8-0 but their level of play has tapered off in recent weeks. They’re ripe for an upset this week against a Bills team that has played very well at home and nearly beaten the likes of New England and Cincinnati.

Rounding things out

New England Patriots (-7.5) vs. Pit – The Steelers looked to be building momentum, but then two missed FGs ended their bid for a three-game winning streak. The Patriots are almost fully healthy on D outside of the players already on IR and will harass Roethlisberger all day. Look for Brady and Co. to get back on track too here.

Green Bay Packers (-11.5) vs. Chi – Due to injury, the Packers have been forced to rely on the run more and have done an excellent job. That will come in handy when the Bears come to town on Monday Night. They’re devastated along the defensive front 7 and the Packers will blow them out.

New York Jets (+7) vs. NO – The Jets play well one week, then horrible another. Although they were embarrassed by 40 in week 8, this is their week to play well, and playing at home will be enough to keep things competitive.

Money Line Bet

St. Louis Rams (+130) vs. Ten – Although the Rams are relegated to a back-up QB, head coaches that face their former teams typically do well. There’s still a lot of players on the Titans roster that Fisher drafted, and the Rams D is playing at a high level. Look for a low scoring game which the Rams win by a FG.

It’s on to week 9 of the NFL suicide pool. For those of you still alive, it may be down to slim pickings.

Top pick

1. Oakland Raiders vs. Phi – The Eagles are in a tailspin. The offense hasn’t scored a TD in two weeks and doubts are beginning to crop up about Chip Kelly‘s offense.

Those issues will continue on Sunday even with the return of QB Nick Foles. The Raiders D is sneaky good at home and they do just enough on offense to get the job done.

Next

2. Buffalo Bills vs. KC – All good things must come to an end, and the Chiefs are ripe for a letdown on Sunday. Their offense has become stagnant in recent weeks and they’ve survived a few scares in the process.

The Bills on the other hand have been competitive at home (close losses to NE and Cin) and will pull out the win this time.

3. Dallas Cowboys vs. Min – The devastation from last week’s loss will erode by the end of Week 9. That is due to the hapless Vikings coming to town. Look for Dallas to exploit an injury riddled D and win this one by double digits.

Top Pick

1. Oakland Raiders (+3) vs. Pit – See money line bet.

Next

2. Cincinnati Bengals (-6) vs. NYJ – The loss of CB Leon Hall for the year is a big blow, but the Bengals D is deep and has a lot of quality in the front 7. Offensively, QB Andy Dalton and Co. are clicking and that will continue when Rex’s crew comes to town.

3. Minnesota Vikings (+9.5) vs. GB – Divisional match-ups are tricky, and the Packers are severely beat up at the skill positions offensively for this one.

4. San Francisco 49ers (-16.5) vs. Jax – This is a terrible match-up to showcase the NFL to London, and will be an easy win for the 49ers.

Rounding things out

Kansas City Chiefs (-9) vs. Cle – The Browns are down to QB Jason Campbell, which is bringing smiles to the Chiefs attacking defense.

New York Giants (+5) vs. Phi – The last contest wasn’t as lopsided as the final outcome indicated. New York is better defensively now and there is question marks surrounding QB Michael Vick’s health.

Denver Broncos (-13) vs. Was – The Skins defense is atrocious, and will be worse playing in the thin air of Denver. Look for Peyton and Co. to overwhelm this unit and win going away.

Money Line Bet

Oakland Raiders (+115) vs. Pit – Pittsburgh has reeled off two straight wins but hardly in convincing fashion. The team is playing better and now has a running game to rely on, but there are still a lot of issues. The Raiders are better than most would think at home – especially on defense – and will pull out the W coming off the bye.

1. Baltimore Ravens (+3) vs. GB – See money line bet.

Next

2. Houston Texans (-7.5) vs. Stl. – The Texans will get back to what they do best on Sunday: running the ball and playing solid defense. They’ll limit Schaub’s opportunities for errors and beat the Rams by at least 10 at home.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars (+27) vs. Den – It’s just hard to see Denver keeping its starters in for the entire game.

4. Indianapolis Colts (-2.5) vs. SD – The Colts always have a chance with Andrew Luck at QB and are playing much better defensively than most anticipated. They’ll cover the point spread and beat the Chargers by at least a FG on Monday Night.

Rounding Things Out

Oakland Raiders (+8) vs. KC – The Chiefs will continue to win, but they haven’t been blowing teams out.

Seattle Seahawks vs. (-13.5) vs. Ten – The 12th man will make things very difficult for Ryan Fitzpartick and Co.

Cincinnati Bengals (-7) vs. Buf – The Bengals have been an enigma this season. Their defense is starting to get going and they’re facing QB Jeff Tuel this week.

Money Line Bet

Baltimore Ravens (+120) vs. GB – The Ravens have played their best ball at home, especially defensively. The Packers are 2-2, with both losses coming on the road, and will likely be without LB Clay Matthews in this one. Look for Baltimore to pull out a hard fought and low scoring game to move to 4-2.
